Membership Category

GNACC MEMBERSHIP

To maintain Professional Membership members must undertake at least 15 hours of approved Continuing Professional Development in each calendar year which shall be recorded as required by Executive. In the event of a member being unable to meet the professional development requirements for maintaining their current membership, due to serious long-term illness, extended leave or other exceptional circumstances, the Executive Committee may decide to vary this requirement for that member for a set period of time or offer the member an alternative category of membership.

The membership of the Association consists of

Certificated Counsellors

The following shall be eligible for Professional membership of the Association: Persons who are currently holders of a certificate in Counselling, Psychology or related disciplines up to the Diploma level, including studies in Educational Guidance and Counselling practices. The certificate must be awarded by an accredited institution in Ghana or abroad and must be recognized by the Ghana Psychological Council and the Executive Body of GNACC as suitable training for guidance and counselling duties and practices.

Persons who are currently registered or are willing to register with Ghana Psychological Council (GPC).

Within the Certificated Counsellors category, there are two (2) sub-class members, namely: 1. Professional Counsellors: They are persons who currently hold at least a Master degree in Counselling, Psychology or related disciplines. 2. Para-Professional Counsellors: They are persons are currently hold at least a Master degree in Counselling, Psychology or related disciplines

Student Counsellors

The following shall be eligible for Student Membership; Any person undertaking studies in Counselling, Psychology or related disciplines with an accredited institution in Ghana or abroad. Such persons must be recognized by the Ghana Psychological Council and the Executive Body of GNACC as suitable training for guidance and counselling duties and practices.

Associate Counsellors

The following shall be eligible for Associate Membership of the Association: Persons who do not have an academic certificate or award in Counselling, Psychology or related disciplines but are already practicing as counsellors based on experience, job-related schedules, social roles among others. Persons who subscribe to the objectives of the Association, and wish to receive publications and participate in the Association’s activities, but who are ineligible for Professional membership. Persons who are currently registered or are willing to register with Ghana Psychological Council.

NB: Associate members have no voting rights. However, they will have a representative on the Executive Committee who will be eligible to vote. The number of Associate members shall be unlimited.
